How We Fixed Amazon Error 8115 and Split a Child ASIN Out of Its Parent Listing
A flat file kept failing with Error 8115. We escalated it, rebuilt the variation family and made one ASIN standalone, without breaking up the other children.

CLIENT BACKGROUND
Who Is This Client?
Our client is an Amazon seller with a variation family under parent ASIN B0B9H14HGY. Their plans for one product changed, and child ASIN B0CMFTG62V needed to leave the family and sell as a standalone listing with its own detail page.
The other two children, B0B9GYKTPT and U4-UW47-BNFX, had to stay grouped so shoppers could still switch between them on one page. The client’s team tried to make the split with a flat file, and Amazon rejected the upload with Error 8115.

THE CHALLENGE
What Problem Were We Solving?
A simple variation change turned into a blocked flat file, a detail page that wouldn't update and a real risk to the rest of the family.
01
Error 8115 Blocked the Flat File
The client used a flat file upload to separate the listing, but Amazon returned Error 8115 and refused to apply the change. Resubmitting the same file gave the same result.
02
Detail Page Didn't Reflect the Changes
Even after the first adjustments were made, the product detail page still showed the old variation family. That delayed the fix and left shoppers seeing the wrong grouping.
03
Parent Structure Had to Stay Intact
Only B0CMFTG62V could leave the parent. B0B9GYKTPT and U4-UW47-BNFX had to stay together under a correct parent listing, so a careless fix could have damaged the whole family.
OUR STRATEGY
How CaptenAMZ Fixed Error 8115
We worked through Amazon's process in order: a feed fix first, escalation second, and a rebuild only once Amazon confirmed it was needed.
1
Feed File & Hard Update
We created a new feed file and ran a hard update on the SKUs to separate B0CMFTG62V from parent B0B9H14HGY, the standard first fix for a variation change.
2
Escalation to Seller Support
When the hard update did not work, we called Amazon Seller Support. Their internal team reviewed the case and confirmed the existing parent listing had to be deleted before the update could go through.
3
Parent Deleted & SKUs Reassigned
Following Seller Support’s guidance, we deleted only the parent listing, assigned B0B9GYKTPT and U4-UW47-BNFX to a newly created parent, and set B0CMFTG62V up as a standalone listing.
4
Follow-Up on the Detail Page
The changes were applied, but B0CMFTG62V still appeared under the old parent on the detail page. We went back to Seller Support, who told us to allow time for the removal to reflect across Amazon.
5
Final Verification
Within 24 hours the changes were fully processed. B0CMFTG62V was live as its own listing, and the remaining children were correctly grouped under the new parent.
THE RESULTS
Compliance Restored. Sales Uninterrupted.

When a flat file keeps failing with Error 8115, sending the same file again rarely helps. The fix is to find out what Amazon's catalog is holding on to, which here was the old parent, and rebuild the family around it.
