A recent client of CaptenAmz faced a challenge when a newly created variation was rejected for a specific ASIN in California due to delivery restrictions. Despite the product not being actively sold in California, the listing was flagged, preventing any sales within the state.
PROBLEMS
ASIN Rejection in California
A variation we created for the listing was rejected for a specific ASIN in California. This caused an unexpected barrier in expanding the product’s availability.
Certification Requirement
To comply with California’s regulations, Amazon requested a certification that was necessary for products restricted in the region. Without this certification, the ASIN remained unsellable in California.
Delivery Location Restrictions
Although the client was not selling the ASIN in California, Amazon’s system flagged the listing with a restriction preventing sales in any California zip code. The issue stemmed from missing required certifications.
Limited Seller Control Over the Issue
Since the listing was automatically restricted, the client had no direct control over resolving the issue. The problem required Amazon’s internal team to intervene and verify compliance.

Solution Implemented

We investigated the issue and reached out to Amazon Seller Support to understand the reason behind the delivery restriction and determine the necessary steps to resolve it.
Case Review by Amazon’s Internal Team
Amazon acknowledged the issue and escalated the case to their internal team for further review. They confirmed that the restriction was due to missing compliance documentation.
Certification Requirement Identified
We allowed 24 hours for the backend Amazon informed us that a composite certification was required to sell the product in California. Without this certification, the ASIN could not be approved for listing in the restricted region.
Submission of Required Documentation
To resolve the issue, we worked with the client to obtain the necessary certification and promptly submitted it to Amazon for verification.
Issue Resolution and Listing Approval
Once Amazon received the required documentation, they reviewed and approved the listing, removing the restriction. The ASIN was successfully reinstated, and sales were allowed in California.
Verification of Resolved Issue
After implementation, we conducted a final review to ensure the listing was live and available for purchase in California zip codes, confirming that the restriction had been lifted.
